EventCAT Empowers Communication and Collaboration at the Gachon University 2025 Global Startup Camp (GCSC)
From January 8 to January 13, 2025, Gachon University in Korea hosted the 2025 Global College Student Startup Camp (GCSC). This meaningful event brought together 80 university students from Korea and Japan, who collaborated to propose innovative solutions to pressing social issues in East Asia. Co-hosted by Gachon University and Hitotsubashi University in Japan, and sponsored by Cocone One and Shinhan Financial Group, the camp sought to develop groundbreaking approaches to common challenges such as population decline and climate change.
Breaking Language Barriers to Foster Collaboration
During the camp, XL8’s EventCAT served as a vital tool, offering AI-powered real-time subtitle translation to facilitate bidirectional communication between Korean and Japanese language speaking participants across various sessions, including mentoring, participant presentations, and keynote speeches, ensuring smooth communication and fostering in-depth discussions.
A standout example were the keynote speeches delivered by Professor Naohiro Shichijo from Hitotsubashi University and Professor Lisa Son from Columbia University’s Barnard College. EventCAT translated the English speeches into Korean and Japanese subtitles in real time, enabling participants to fully grasp the content and engage in meaningful dialogue without being hindered by language barriers.
"We were initially concerned about potential communication challenges in preparing for this Korea-Japan international event. However, after XL8's team visited our school to introduce the service and conduct a demonstration, we were impressed by the quality of the translations, which led us to adopt EventCAT.
During the mentoring sessions and keynote speeches, EventCAT was utilized extensively. Both Korean and Japanese students could engage with mentors in their preferred languages, whether Korean or Japanese. The key messages were effectively conveyed, enabling productive collaboration. It stands as a remarkable example of global teamwork.”

Expanding the Possibilities of Global Education Through AI Translation Technology
This event was hosted at Gachon Cocone School, a startup college established in 2022 at Gachon University. The school fosters global entrepreneurship through immersive semester programs and structured startup education. Students participating in the camp leveraged EventCAT’s real-time multilingual subtitles to transcend language barriers, further enhancing collaboration and creativity.
The adoption of real-time AI interpretation solutions in programs involving global participants exemplifies innovation and inclusivity in education. As international academic exchanges become more frequent and the proportion of international students continues to grow, EventCAT is playing a pivotal role in bridging language divides and enriching educational experiences for all students.
Looking ahead, EventCAT is poised to continue breaking linguistic barriers, expanding opportunities for global collaboration, and delivering impactful experiences at events worldwide.
